  8. Using Kick3.1 ROM on the A600 WITH NO HACKS OR SOFTKICKING.
  9. First...
  10. You need...an A600
  11. And you'll want to buy kickstart 3.1 for the A500/2000/2500, make sure
  12. it's version 40.63.
  13. I don't know of any other 16-bit rom versions out there anywayz.
  14. (at least that are being sold)

  16. Installation
  17. Unplug everything from the computer.
  18. (it's generally easier this way)
  19.  
  20. Flip the machine upside down.
  21. Take the 4 phillips screws out of the 600's case, and CAREFULLY
  22. open it up.  There are a few VERY DELICATE (stupidly placed)
  23. plastic tab things holding the back of the case together, try not
  24. to break them or you will wind up holding the A600's case around
  25. the disk drive together with rubber bands. (like mine :< )
  26.  
  27. Slowly lift the top of the case off, and disconnect the connector
  28. to the LED's on the right side (remember which end is up too).
  29. Flip the top of the case over the back so you don't pull out the
  30. keyboard "connector" because it sucks putting the damn thing back in!
  31.  
  32. On the RF-shielding over the motherboard you will see a nice shiny
  33. gold (on my machine anywayz) sticker, peeling this off will reveal
  34. the only socketed chip on the motherboard...the kickstart
  35. (yours will probably be 37.299, 37.300 or if you have a HD, 37.350)
  36. CAREFULLY remove the old chip (remember which way the little mark
  37. on the end of the chip is facing when installing the new chip)
  38. and CAREFULLY place the new chip in place.
  39. Plaster the pretty gold sticker back over the chip on the RF shielding.
  40. Put the machine back together.
  41.  
  42. Plug everything back into the machine, and fire it up.
  43. If you have a PCMCIA ram card, IT WILL WORK
  44. If you have a harddrive, IT WILL WORK
  45. (in case you're wondering, I've had several Amiga dealers tell me
  46. that Kick 3.1 for the 500/2000/2500 won't work on a 600)

  48. Now most of you out there that already know this information are probably
  49. reading this doc saying "NO SH*T!", but for those of you A600 owners
  50. desperate to use the latest and greatest version of Amigados, but were
  51. afraid to get it can take comfort in knowing that YOU CAN UPGRADE!

  53. Oh, yea, BTW, you'll probably want to install Workbench 3.1 as well...
